Tom Buschman

Tom has 25 years of experience in leading change in payment services and supply chain automation having worked for a wide range of organisations from large global corporates to SMEs to government agencies and universities.

He worked 15 years in Finance for Shell in the Netherlands, Brazil and the UK followed by 10 years as owner of EDGE, a web-based platform for invoicing and payments and as consultant for the World Bank/IFC, BNP Paribas, Eneco, HCL Technologies and the Danish government. During these years he has also been a fellow at the LSE in 2003/4 and currently acts as industry liaison for Leicester University.

Throughout his career Tom has a track record of business development and leading complex change projects. In 2001 he initiated Shell’s investment in the first online FX platform Currenex of which he was a Board Director. He also founded open payment standard organisation TWIST which has driven the development of ISO 20022 open standards for payments, billing of bank services and bank account management. He has been a member of EU Expert Groups on Payments and eInvoicing. Currently he is leading the establishment of a corporate-led market solution for electronic onboarding of clients.

Tom founded ECG and has overall responsibility for the consultancy practice. Within ECG he specialises in financial services business development for corporate supply chains (electronic B2B payments, trade finance, invoice financing and FX).

Tom is married and father of two young daughters. In his spare time he enjoys family outings, long walks with his dog and reading history books.
